Wauwatosa Veterinary Clinic

I am new to Wisconsin and received a welcome coupon from the welcome wagon which offered a free exam for the wauwatosa Veterinary Clinic. I have had many animals in my life and my last dog who I had for almost 17 years was my whole heart and she passed in February of 2024, so I've been to many vets before in 5 different cities around the world. I had to wait almost a month for this appointment and I was very glad for this coupon because just before our appointment I started a new job where I would not get paid until the following Friday and I had an emergency bill that only left enough money for a rabies shot today. I fully was planning on coming back and getting all the rest of our shots and making this our vet if everything went well. I had to take this day off of work since it was in the middle of the day appointment. The facility is very clean and I like that they had us wait in the car until the room was ready because Elvis my new dog, who is a rescue from West Texas who I fostered and then adopted, gets slight anxiety when he's overstimulated and I didn't know how he'd react in a waiting room with other dogs/ppl because he loves attention and getting pet by people and if he doesn't he gets frustrated. We entered the office and the vet tech who let us into the room did not even try to pet my dog. When we got in the room she didn't try to pet my dog then either until after about 10 minutes of asking me questions that are already on his records. Her biggest concern was that I had a coupon from the humane society, my dog is not from the humane society... I told her I didn't know if it was from the humane society and oh no I just realized I forgot the coupon at home. She told me that they were going to do a blood draw for heartworm and such. I said I did not agree to that and I do not want that today because I am low on funds and I just really want the rabies shot (which is a few months overdue) and to establish a vet because of the long wait and that I would be back for the other shots and everything. She left the room and my dog increasingly started to get anxious because we were waiting for about 25 more minutes When the vet finally entered, she did not come down to my dog's level and address my dog either. Her biggest concern was about the coupon I said I could run back and get it I live 10 minutes away. She said that they were going to lunch at 2pm... And that there wouldn't be anybody here... huh well maybe you shouldn't have made me wait almost 45 minutes to actually see anyone just for a brief exam and a shot. She said that she would have to get a manager because what they would have to do is charge my card and then reimburse me when I got home after I sent a picture of the coupon. I said you're going to put my bank negative if you do that it takes 3 days to put money back on a card when you do that.. she said that she would have to make sure it was okay with manager. Manager finally came in and at this point my dog is completely restless and confused because no one is petting him and he is in a room doing nothing and of course as a dog every time the door opens he thinks it's time to go. More people now are in the room. The mgr actually says hello to my dog but does not pet him or touch him either. She basically said the same thing the vet said and that they would have to charge my card. At this point I'm extremely angry not just because I have lost an entire day of work, but because my dog is uncomfortable and also considering the financial climate, this person does not have the grace to let me give them some kind of collateral to ensure that I indeed had a coupon... I mean there is such a thing as billing and they would have my account number after they charge me for the rabies. I would not have even known about this place without their dumb coupon. Basically, we left The manager couldn't even offer a list of places to get shots.. which is bs since they partner with the humane society. Good riddance. .. Also, I just found out all you had to do was mention the ad.

Dr Kicker is hands down the best vet we have ever had.

We started bringing our two senior cats to see Dr. Kicker over 4 years ago, and he has been the most compassionate and practical vet we could have hoped for. He went above and beyond as we navigated the unexpected decline and passing of one of our cats, and he has continued to provide amazing care for our other cat, who is 17 years old and has chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, and arthritis. He makes sure that we understand the best evidence-based treatment options for our sweet old boy and is truly committed to helping us ensure that he has a good quality of life in his old age. The vet techs and other staff members are also incredibly kind and gentle. The care provided is more than worth the cost.

Very friendly staff. They treat your pets like their own and all seem legitimately excited to see every pet. They're very accommodating as well. They have signs posted to wait in your car and text them when you're there so they can tell you when to come in and straight to a room. This may be a holdover from the pandemic, however it's really nice to not have to wait around with a bunch of other pets that may or may not be good with the pet you bring in. They've had a few different doctors since I've been bringing my pets there. All of them top notch- willing to answer any questions, and again super friendly and accommodating. Started taking my pets there when I moved to Wauwatosa area. Now I'm closer to Franklin and still take my pets there because of how nice it is. Prices seem reasonable.
