Wellness Veterinary Clinic

These vets are so good with mine and our families' animals. I would most definitely recommend it.

Great place, a little busy but good value and nice people.

We have been taking our cats here for almost a decade - our oldest in nine. We’ve never had an issue with routine vet care, but after how they handled our cat’s amputation recovery I would absolutely never bring an animal here for anything more than a shot. Our youngest cat, Reggie, had a leg amputated two months ago by UW Vet. After his surgery, we scheduled his two week follow up at. His wound had become infected. We communicated with Wellness that UW Vet would be sending instructions over so we would not have to take Reggie back to Madison. UW Vet sent over a detailed explanation of what they wanted done for his wound evaluation. When I met with Dr. Rosenbaum it was clear that he did not read any of the communication from UW Vet. I had to request a culture of the wound and Dr. Rosenbaum did not say a word about the eschar (deep tissue scab) until I pointed it out when he started putting Reggie’s sweater back on without even looking at it. Both of these things were included in UW Vet’s message. When prompted to look at this he said, “oh yeah, I guess that tissue does look like it’s dead.” It was about the size of a dollar coin. You would have to be ignoring it to not say anything about it. They refilled his gabapentin prescription at half the dose that UW Vet had requested. They also did not send any of the information from our appointment back to UW Vet including the wound culture results. UW Vet was so distrusting of Dr. Rosenbaum’s evaluation that they had me bring Reggie back to Madison to evaluate his wound. They also refilled his gabapentin appropriately and extended the antibiotics Wellness had given us. A few weeks later, Wellness was supposed to remove Reggie’s stitches as well as examine a developing fungal infection in his ear (this cat really can’t catch a break). They removed the stitches and prescribed antifungal medications. Dr. Rosenbaum said “well it doesn’t glow under the wood’s lamp so it might not be ringworm”. We were not given any additional instructions to prevent the spread of the infection to our other cats and household in case it was ringworm. In fact, Dr. Rosenbaum really made it seem to not be a big deal. When we consulted UW Vet and sent pictures they were much more concerned and provided detailed instructions on how to properly treat the infection and prevent spreading it to the rest of the household. Later that evening I was checking Reggie’s wound and noticed that a couple of stitches were still there. I called immediately the following morning and the tech I spoke to was shocked and told me to immediately bring him in to remove the stitches. When I arrived, they said “Oh we tried to call you! The stitches were left on purpose.” No one told me they had left stitches and no follow up to remove the other stitches was scheduled. There was no documentation they had left the stitches. Their reasoning? They were planning to let the stitches dissolve. Which is CRAZY because they are not dissolvable stitches. I told them this and they complained about UW Vet not documenting that, which is ironic considering we found the information in my documents from UW Vet and Wellness did not document leaving stitches in my cat. These would have eventually become infected had I not noticed them. This was our last straw with Wellness. We decided to switch to another provided locally and they said these stories are not uncommon with Dr. Rosenbaum. Reggie is genuinely the chillest cat ever. The doctor at UW Vet said he is the only cat she’s ever done a dental exam while completely alone. The vet’s at Birch Bark gave him a gold star for the day when he just sat there and let them remove his eschar. Yet every time he came back from the back room at Wellness he was extremely stressed. Dr. Rosenbaum has no business practicing in the irresponsible manner he does.

Friendly staff with on site pet pharmacy when needed.
