Dr. Jacobs was wonderful throughout all the visits with my very senior and shy dog. My dog has urinary issues as well as heart failure, and Dr. Jacobs listened to everything I needed to say, was very patient, and explained everything very well. He provided all the reasoning behind any tests or medications, weighed pros and cons, was knowledgeable about everything, and was very mindful of the costs of the services, labs etc. My dog is from a rescue and very shy and afraid of almost everyone, and upon my request, Dr. Jacobs took her blood in the patient room instead of taking her alone to the back. This way, I was able to console her as she was shaking before we even made it through the entrance. Dr. Jacobs was very patient and I never had the feeling that he wanted to run out of the room like a lot of doctors, veterinarians or human, do. He was also excellent as far as communication and calling about results. The front desk staff was very friendly and considerate, had my paperwork ready that I emailed and was very courteous. I switched to Park Pet Hospital after 3 years of going to Lakeside on Bender Rd. I really wish I switched earlier. I don't know what happened to Lakeside but every time I went there recently, the vet seemed that she didn't even like animals and all they did was suggest expensive procedures that would be either painful or very expensive or both. As a (human) nurse myself, I understand the pathology of my dog's conditions, and those suggested tests were not really necessary - they were "nice to have" not necessary. I expect my doctors to know how to weigh the comfort and situation of their patient, be it a human or an animal. Every time I came back home from Lakeside, my dog had an exacerbation of her heart failure symptoms from stress. This did not happen in Park Pet Hospital. I can tell that Dr. Jacobs genuinely loves animals and is concerned about their well being while weighing the best approach to their physical and mental health. One last example - about one year ago when still at Lakeside, I had to wait an entire day for a Lakeside doctor to look at my dog's urine sample results, as my dog's UTI progressed every hour. I had to call that place at least 3 times until finally, close to 6PM, the doctor finally called and I could come pick up my dog's antibiotics. I had the test results since late morning because I asked the front desk to give them to me (I dropped off a sample as soon as they opened) and saw that my dog definitely had a UTI - the markers are pretty much the same as human markers, and it was excruciating to have to wait almost 12 hours to be able to start treatment. At Park Pet Hospital, Dr. Jacobs was in touch as soon as he saw the results, kept the communication line open and returned calls very promptly. He is someone who is flexible and makes sure his patients are well taken care of. I am so, so grateful that I found him and this hospital.
